Hi, i'm Lucian and here I share my experiences, thoughts and opinions on life in the blue cloud. I'm a Cloud Solution Architect, specialising in Azure infrastructure, at Microsoft, in Sydney, Australia.

Microsoft Ignite 2016 (Atlanta) 1 day to go

The day before! #excited

The day begins with your protagonist getting up early.

The body clock is still set on Sydney time and even though there’s been little sleep, I can’t sleep much past 6. The good news is that there’s enough of a buffer to allow Skype’ing with Mrs Lucian.

Fast forward to breakfast and the buffet was great. The butter on my toast was creamy, sweet and tasted really good. As though it was turned up a notch on the dial. The fried eggs medium were cooked well and oozed of that same butter flavour. The highlight though was the maple smoked bacon that was again sweet, smoky but almost borderline too salty. The saltiness was necessary and made the bacon taste out of this world.

I can’t say this enough, but, service in America is amazing. Not that it’s bad at home in Sydney. Its great in Sydney. However, I remember Seth Godin in Purple Cow saying that to create that purple cow experience, that remarkable or next level anything, it can’t be very good.

Very good is the opposite of remarkable.
-Seth Godin

SHOPPING. Today was about shopping.

I’m sorry Australia. It’s time someone (yep, I’m going to do it) stands up and says something about this. The standard of men’s clothing and fashion options is dreadful. Men are effectively second class citizens when it comes to fashion. Sure, men don’t by as much as women. Sure, there are considerably, well, a vast amount less interest in it from men. However, surely if brands are making cloths in other parts of the world, some of that can come to Australia too.

America’s clothing industry is huge. Going to the North Georgia Premium Outlet centre was a-maze-balls. YES, I did just write that. No, im not a 11 year old. However, the difference in options and standards couldn’t even be put on a scale. There is no scale. The scale was destroyed. No, that isn’t an America and size joke either. There was no pun and no intention.

Pro-tip: If you have an X and a Y chromosome, then like Darren (@darrenjrobinson) said: “pack with a small onboard bag. In that have a larger check-in capable bag. Get to America. Fill up larger bag with clothes. Job done.”

See you all at Day 1 tomorrow. Two big keynotes: the Ignite Keynote in the morning and the Microsoft Innovation Keynote in the afternoon.
