Microsoft Ignite 2016 (Atlanta) Day 2

More prepared and relaxed today with the added benefit of having my laptop. Day 1 finished with me feeling exhausted. After Day 2: I still feel exhausted. I’ve walked 3/4 the distance of a marathon in the last 3 days. By the end of the week I’m sure that I would have completed two marathons worth of effort. I’m fine to do the exercise, but, with jet lag still in effect, it does take it’s toll.

I spent part of the day walking around the enormous conference halls, part in sessions and a good chunk in chatting with various program managers at the Microsoft showcase.

Some of the sessions though were not quite what I was expecting. It might be related to having more architecture related stuff being pushed towards the end of the week, or it’s just the sessions I picked.

Today:

  • Accelerate your Office 365 deployment with FastTrack
  • Zero touch cloud automation with Azure Resource Manager
  • Back up born-in-the-cloud and hybrid applications with Operations Management Suite and Azure Backup
  • Build tiered cloud storage in Microsoft Azure
  • Manage Microsoft Office 365 Groups
  • Dive deep into Azure Container Service

That’s a lot of sessions, all over the shop- in terms of location around the massive halls.

I missed one, was not that into one and overall felt some of the sessions were not high enough level. The other choices were not that much better, so I think the content was not that tricky on Day 2. We’ll see on Day 3.

I like sports. I play sports. I watch sports.

Not all sports though.

I have to be honest and say I have absolutely no, zero, nada, zilch, ZERO; interest in baseball. However, Darren and a group of guys from Dimension Data and I went over to Turner Field just after sunset to watch the Atlanta Braves play the Philadelphia Phillies. I know the basic concept of the game. Although it’s not too hard to follow.

Like everything here though, the stadium is big. The atmosphere is energetic. The home fans are in high spirits and strong voice, even though (from what I hear) the team at the moment isn’t expected to reach the heights of past glories.

This is what you do to break up the learning, the note taking, the networking which all take a lot out of you mentally. Like with anything, balance is important. I can’t say I was that into it, it’s not my kind of sport, but, the experience was great and something I’d maybe do again one day. Maybe..
